TCIS New Campus

Taejon Christian International School

DECA collaborated with Myhre Group to design this new 850-student, private international school in Taejon, South Korea, which includes pre-K–12 classrooms, administration offices, computer labs, an athletic complex, and a performing and fine arts center. The design is based on the concept that learning takes place both inside and outside of the classroom. While the building is separated into “learning communities” by grade level, it looks and functions more like a college campus than a traditional K–12 school. Informal gathering areas throughout the campus, including large “commons” for each division as well as small gathering areas for 2–3 students, help kids work together. The architecture supports the school’s rigorous academic standards with its International Baccalaureate programs and innovative teaching methods.

The school is also designed to meet advanced standards for sustainability and energy efficiency by becoming the second school in South Korea to meet the Green Building Certification Criteria (GBCC) “Excellent Level.”
