Shaver Green

Shaver Green brings together economic, ecological, and social responsibility. As a “Workforce Housing” apartment building, it is designed to meet the expanding housing needs of the entry-level workforce in the Portland Metropolitan area. The 10,000 square-foot project site is located in a dense urban setting facing a fast-moving street to the east. It is built upon a former brownfield site and bridges a commercial and a residential neighborhood. In addition to addressing the need to maximize the property’s income potential through efficient use of space, the design aimed at creating a positive precedent on a busy street to support the urban fabric, creating a sense of community, and demonstrating that modern design and high quality, affordable housing are not mutually exclusive.

Shaver Green has a concrete and steel frame, state-of-the-art features for sustainability and energy efficiency and was designed to meet LEED Gold certification standards. It is one of the first affordable housing projects in the U.S. to achieve LEED Gold.
